When it comes to motorcycle gloves there are a lot of choices, some of these depend on your riding style and what you want to wear. I personally like full fingered gloves but a lot of guys that ride cruiser’s will not wear a glove at all or they wear half fingered gloves. These look a lot like weight training gloves where the palm and top of the fingers are covered but the tips are exposed. The advantage to these gloves is that you don’t loose all the sensitivity where with a totally closed glove you will. Also the short fingered motorcycle gloves will keep your hands from sweating. Hatch makes a really nice pair of these gloves called shorty gloves. Hatch makes quality gloves so I would recommend those if you like short fingered gloves.

Short fingered gloves are a favorite of the cruiser crowd. I guess they go with the whole image and they do offer some protection in case you go down. I have seen a guys hand that had a spill without any gloves on and the road took all the meat of the palm of his hand. Not a real nice feeling I am guessing, therefore it is essential to wear some sort of hand protection when you are out riding. If you do fall I can almost guarantee 99 percent of the time your hands are going to touch that pavement and unless you have some leather on them your hands are asking for a serious case of road rash if youre lucky. So at a minimum a set of short fingered gloves will do the job nicely.

Full fingered gloves offer a bit more protection then their short fingered counterparts. Most of your sport bike crowd will use a full fingered glove. Some are gauntlet style or just a regular glove. Icon makes some really nice gauntlet style gloves as does AGV and Alpinestars. I personally own a pair of Alloy Alpinestars gloves which I have had for about 3 years now. These gloves are perforated and a are perfect for warm weather riding which is about 9 months out of the year where I live. I also like these gloves because they are simple and even when I am out on my chopper they look good where some of your more flashy hard core sport rider gloves are a bit to flashy for a cruiser these do double duty quite nicely. Icon also makes a set of gloves called pursuit gloves that are much along these lines. However if you want the ultimate in protection you will want to get a pair of gauntlet style road racing or track gloves. These types of gloves are made to really do the best job when it comes to protecting you in a spill. Most of them offer some sort of knuckle protection as well as a reinforced palm, also the seams are usually reinforced in order to ensure that the glove will stay in one piece under extreme conditions.

Ultimately the choice is yours, whether to wear gloves or not period. You will find that most bikers that have been riding for a while do wear some sort of hand protection. Their are many different styles of glove available so there is bound to be one that suits your needs. It doesn’t matter who makes them but I would recommend you go with a quality manufacturer of motorcycle apparel like Alpinestars, Hatch, Icon or AGVSport. When you go with one of them you can be ensured that the gloves you are getting are of the best quality and will do the job they are designed for.

Czech pub food eating experiment resulted in lost weight, lower cholesterol

Friday, March 10, 2006

On February 8, the same day Super Size Me opened in Prague, a Czech film company’s volunteer known as Karel Gustav Bozan began a 1 month diet of Czech pub food and beer in a Czech version called “Super Spek Me”; which translates loosely as “Super Flab Me”.

Zuzana Pudilova of Aerofilms described the volunteer at that time: “He is a well-built man between 45 and 50. He is almost 2 metres tall, he is not exactly thin but until now he has had quite a healthy lifestyle.”

Karel ate typical Czech pub food for an entire month with three rules: no vegetables or fresh fruit (unless they came with a meal) no exercise, and lots of beer.

Karel’s menu consisted entirely of typical Czech dishes. Obesity therapist, Iva Malkova, had warned at the beginning of the project: “People in the Czech Republic eat much more fat, especially animal fat than is recommended.” Pub meals in the Czech Republic often consist of such fatty items as goose with dumplings or sausages.

Yesterday the results were announced; Karel lost six kilos, his cholesterol went down and so did his liver enzymes, triglyceride and uric acid levels. His blood pressure did not change. At his interview with Radio Prague he said: “I feel good, great! The food was varied and there were even enough greens in the garnish. As for beer, I tried to alternate brands but I always settled it with Pilsner. I liked the experiment, it was all paid for by the distributor, Aerofilms. I would do it again, maybe they will propose it to me!”

Zuzana Pudilova of Aerofilms said: “The result of the experiment is surprising – both for us and the experts who monitored it. The medical report says our volunteer has lost weight and his blood sugar has dropped. So we have come to the conclusion that fatty Czech pub grub is not all that bad for you – which I guess wasn’t meant to be the result of the experiment at all.”

U.S. President George W. Bush acknowledged Pakistan’s sovereignty and pledged continued support for the country in economic and security fields. His comments were likely in response to the Pakistani president’s anger when US helicopters crossed Pakistani borders.

Bush and Asif Ali Zardari, newly elected President of Pakistan, met at the Waldorf Asotria Hotel on the sidelines of the 63rd UN General Assembly session and discussed strengthening their bilateral relationship. Bush also expressed full support for the “Friends of Pakistan” initiative to drum up international support for its economic development.

While talking to the press, Pakistan‘s Information Minister Sherry Rahman said “President Bush praised President Zardari’s courage and commitment to fight terrorism despite his great personal loss”. Bush also expressed grief over the heavy loss of life during the weekend bombing on the Marriot hotel, Islamabad.

At the outset, he said Pakistan was an important ally and reaffirmed the United States commitment to assist Pakistan’s economic development while also citing Washington’s bipartisan support in this respect.

Zardari took over the presidency from Pervez Musharraf in August.

If you’ve been classed a negligent driver because of an accident which has injured another person or persons, chances are you’ll need an SR-22 in Mundelein IL which is simply a ‘certificate of insurance’ stating that you have insurance. If a person is deemed an extremely high risk and has faced fines or time in jail because of a DUI or DWI and they didn’t carry insurance at the time, the state in which they live demands they have the minimum insurance coverage on their vehicle.

They at Alamo Insurance at a very affordable rate. Insurance companies provide many other policies besides automobile insurance. They have agents who totally understand the business that visits clients once a year and makes sure they increase their coverage if needed.

Waiting too long to get life insurance means that it could cost a lot more in later years. The health of a client can change overnight from a strapping and healthy individual to one who can’t buy insurance because they’ve developed an illness. The same insurance agent who can have an SR-22 in Mundelein IL issued very affordably, can also explain health, commercial insurance, property insurance, and the all-important life insurance. Don’t put off talking to the company about your insurance needs. The life insurance policies you buy today on you, yourself and your children will cost less this year than next year.

Don’t wait till it’s too late to buy insurance. A person needing SR-22 in Mundelein IL has to pay for coverage even when they aren’t driving their car. As you can see, it would have made more sense to have the insurance and be covered than not have insurance and drive without it. In this modern age, when people sue for any reason, don’t take chances with your future. No one should drive without automobile insurance. Listen to your insurance agent and get a policy that’s affordable. Don’t drive without it. Click here for more information.

Smoke from massive warehouse fire in Buffalo, New York USA can be seen 40 miles away

Buffalo, New York —A massive warehouse complex of at least 5 buildings caught on fire in Buffalo, New York on 111 Tonawanda Street, sending a plume of thick, jet black colored smoke into the air that could be seen as far away as 40 miles.

As of 6:40 a.m., the fire was under control, and firefighters were attempting to stop it from spreading, but could not get to the center of the fire because of severe amounts of debris. Later in the morning, the fire was extinguished.

“The fire is mostly under debris at this point. It’s under control, but it’s under some debris. We really can’t get to it. We’re just going to have to keep on pouring water on it so it doesn’t spread,” said Thomas Ashe, the fire chief for the North Buffalo based fire division who also added that at one point, at least 125 firefighters were on the scene battling the blaze. One suffered minor injures and was able to take himself to the hospital to seek medical attention.

Shortly after 8:00 p.m. as many as 3 explosions rocked the warehouse sending large mushroom clouds of thick black smoke into the air. After the third explosion, heat could be felt more than 100 feet away. The fire started in the front, one story building then quickly spread to three others, but fire fighters managed to stop the flames from spreading onto the 3 story building all the way at the back.

According to a Buffalo Police officer, who wished not to be named, the fire began at about 7:00 p.m. [Eastern time], starting as a one alarm fire. By 8:00 p.m., three fire companies were on the scene battling the blaze. Police also say that a smaller fire was reported in the same building on Saturday night, which caused little damage.

At the start of the fire, traffic was backed up nearly 4 miles on the 198 expressway going west toward the 190 Interstate and police had to shut down the Tonawanda street exit because the road is too close to the fire.

At one point, traffic on the 198 was moving so slow, at least a dozen people were seen getting out of their cars and walking down the expressway to watch the fire. That prompted as many as 10 police cars to be dispatched to the scene to force individuals back into their cars and close off one of the 2 lanes on the westbound side.

One woman, who wished not to be named as she is close to the owner of the warehouse, said the building is filled with “classic cars, forklifts, and money” and that owner “does not have insurance” coverage on the property. The building is not considered abandoned, but firefighters said that it is vacant.

Officials in Fort Erie, Ontario were also swamped with calls to fire departments when the wind blew the smoke over the Niagra River and into Canada.

It is not known what caused the fire, but a car is suspected to have caught on fire and there are reports from police and hazmat crews, that there were also large barrels of diesel fuel being stored in one building. Firefighters say the cause of the blaze is being treated as “suspicious.” The ATF is investigating the fire and will bring dogs in to search the debris.

National plant materials center goes native in Washington, DC

Among its many ongoing research studies, the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) National Plant Materials Center (NPMC), in Beltsville, Maryland, is researching native, ornamental, perennial plants which are tolerant of hot, droughty conditions. The end result of this research is to promote city gardening in the Washington/Baltimore metro area and to eventually expand to the entire mid-Atlantic region.

“The use of native plants are beneficial to the region in that they are already adapted to the cultural conditions present in city environments and are unlikely to displace other native-plant communities,” said Shawn Belt, Horticulturalist at the NPMC. “And, not only do these native plants add to the diversity of inner-city plant materials they encourage wildlife as well.”

Working with NRCS conservationists for Washington, DC, the NPMC has recently installed a “butterfly garden” a native-plant garden at the Myrtilla Miner Elementary School in NE Washington DC. According to Belt, Washington, DC typically has poor soils so this site will be a good evaluation for hot, dry conditions.

“Since there are no farms in DC to award contracts for the various NRCS cost share programs, NRCS does award cost share for schools in order to educate students to the benefits of using native plants in city landscapes,” said Belt.

NRCS conservationists have been encouraging teachers to install butterfly gardens with cost-share money from the Environmental Quality Incentives Programs (EQIP) to help with the costs of installing these gardens.

While working with the school to install the native-plant garden, NRCS employees will evaluate the performance of the plants over the next 3 years. Additionally, evaluations will be continued in other areas of Washington, DC in order to replicate the “experiment” in differing locations.
