Colon Cleansing and IBS

by

Kevin AgrawalIrritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a functional disorder that causes the colon to be more sensitive to certain foods, medicines and stress. Many people confuse it with a disease but it can be defined as a complex gastrointestinal disorder that affects about one out of five people in America. That’s approximately 60 million Americans. It is more common in women than men, and symptoms usually begin in the early twenties. Symptoms vary from mild to severe abdominal spasms, bloating, flatulence, diarrhea, constipation and mucus in stools. Most people suffering from IBS suffer predominantly from diarrhea. But there is a good number who suffer from alternating bouts diarrhea or constipation.Causes for Irritable Bowel Syndrome

It is a mystery, for the most part, why some people suffer from IBS. Possibilities include a sensitive digestive system that reacts violently to certain foods, medicines, and stress. Some research indicates that having a weakened immune system may play a part

1

. Abdominal spasms indicate that the normal motility of the colon may be impaired. This can result in stools passing slowly through the colon. The longer stools remain in the colon, the more fluids are absorbed and stools become hard resulting in constipation. It is noticed that IBS is related to stress, and emotions play a distinctive role.

Severity of symptoms varies from person to person . Some may find IBS tolerable, while for others, symptoms can debilitate quality living. It is said that IBS is second only to the common cold in the hours that it takes away from work and social activity, not to mention its disruption to travel plans and schedules.

Herbal Colon Cleanse Programs and IBS

Recent advances in scientific research show that fiber supplementation could offer relief to IBS sufferers

2

. Contrary to common belief, fiber is effective for relieving both diarrhea and constipation. Fiber is categorized as soluble and insoluble. It is the soluble fiber which offers benefits for those suffering from IBS. Soluble fiber helps to soften stool. It also helps to add bulk to stool formations. Both these factors aid in easing stool transit through the colon easily and painlessly.

To avoid constipation, doctors recommend a balanced diet, with at least 20-35 grams of soluble fiber every day, along with plenty of water. A daily exercise regimen of at least 30 minutes is a general recommendation by the American Surgeon General for all Americans. Even a half hour of brisk walking is beneficial to health and can help to relieve anxiety and de-stress the body. Relieving stress is very helpful for those who suffer from IBS.

Herbal colon cleansers offer potential relief of symptoms of IBS. Herbs such as aloe vera, have been studied extensively by scientists and are believed to help alleviate cramps, strengthen the immune system and soothe the intestinal lining.

3

Guar Gum helps to regulate digestion and diarrhea. It is particularly useful in helping to relieve systems of irritable bowel syndrome

4

. Chamomile Flower also helps to ease symptoms of IBS. Other herbs such as peppermint are carminative and help to release the discomfort of flatulence. Adding probiotics to your diet are associated to be promising therapies for IBS symptoms.

5

If you are suffering from IBS, ask your doctor about using an herbal colon cleanse programs that contain soluble fiber and nutritional herbs that can help to stimulate regularity.

KKE: Interview with the Greek Communist Party

Thursday, May 13, 2010

Wikinews reporter Iain Macdonald has performed an interview with Dr Isabella Margara, a London-based member of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE). In the interview Margara sets out the communist response to current events in Greece as well as discussing the viability of a communist economy for the nation. She also hit back at Petros Tzomakas, a member of another Greek far-left party which criticised KKE in a previous interview.

The interview comes amid tensions in cash-strapped Greece, where the government is introducing controversial austerity measures to try to ease the nation’s debt-problem. An international rescue package has been prepared by European Union member states and the International Monetary Fund – should Greece require a bailout; protests have been held against government attempts to manage the economic situation.

Correction — August 24, 2015 These briefs incorrectly describe BP as ‘British Petroleum’. In fact, such a company has not existed for many years as BP dropped this name when becoming a multinational company. The initials no longer stand for anything.

Paramedics employed by the Ambulance Service of New South Wales in Australia marched on the New South Wales parliament today. They called for the Government to sack Ambulance Service of New South Wales CEO Greg Rochford, hire 300 additional ambulance officers and 60 patient transport officers. Paramedics gave the Government 48 hours to agree to the proposed staffing levels or face industrial action.

“We are currently at the same levels of staffing that we had in 2002 and these not withstanding, also there’s been an increase in workload of 5 per cent per year every year since then,” said Health Services Union general secretary Michael Williamson.

The union also called for chief executive Greg Roachford and other senior management to be sacked over what has been described as a culture of bullying.

Fuel leak prompts 17,000-vehicle recall by Toyota

Fuel leak prompts 17,000-vehicle recall by Toyota

Toyota announced on Friday that it will recall around 17,000 Lexus vehicles in response to risks of the fuel tank in the cars leaking after a collision.

The Lexus HS 250h model was subjected to the recall following a US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) investigation. Despite previously passing Toyota safety inspections, the conclusions of an NHTSA sub-contracted investigator were that; when the vehicles in question collided with an object at more than fifty-miles-per hour, more than 142 grams of fuel, the maximum allowed by US law, leaked from the crashed car.

According to Toyota, further tests did not show any additional failure of the fuel tank.

In response to the findings, Toyota issued a recall of all affected vehicles, since the company had no solution immediately available. The recall includes 13,000 cars already sold, as well as another 4,000 still at dealerships.

Toyota says it plans to conduct further tests to determine the cause of the leak. A Toyota spokesman, Brian Lyons, said that the company was “still working to determine what the root cause of the condition is.” It’s still unclear when exactly the recall will take place, or when dealerships will be allowed to sell this model again. Lyons said that Toyota is “working feverishly to get this resolved as soon as possible.”

Toyota isn’t aware of any accidents stemming from the leaking fuel tank in the affected vehicles, first introduced in the summer of 2009.

Senior citizen group seeks recovery of Medicare expenses from U.S. cigarette makers

Senior citizen group seeks recovery of Medicare expenses from U.S. cigarette makers

A U.S. lobbyist group, the United Seniors Association, filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Boston to recover Medicare expenses related to tobacco smoking. The suit says there is a link between nicotine addiction and smoking-related diseases.

The first of its kind lawsuit seeks to recover as much as $60 billion in estimated Medicare expenses outlaid for treatment of lung cancer and emphysema patients.

The Medicare Secondary Payer Statute (MSP) allows someone to sue on behalf of Medicare. The medical expenses that another party was legally obligated to cover, in this case the tobacco companies if they are found liable in court, would be split between parties to the suit and Medicare. The MSP statute was entered in part because the government does not have the resources to prosecute every case under Medicare law.

Charles Jarvis, the CEO of the group said, “Our motivation is one of taxpayer protection.” He added, “Considering how badly the taxpayers have been injured financially, we believe the responsible parties — the tobacco companies — should be reimbursing the taxpayer to the greatest amount possible under the law.”

Currently, U.S. employees are taxed by Medicare at 1.45% of their earnings. This payroll tax amount is matched by their employer when paid to the IRS.

The lawsuit names Philip Morris USA, Lorillard Tobacco, the Liggett Group, and R.J. Reynolds Tobacco and two of its subsidiaries as defendants. The United Seniors Association is asking for twice the amount paid by Medicare to treat smoking related illnesses since 1999.
